I have been having recurring nightmares about my father's house. He is now in a facility. In my most recent dream, I was at his house and a dark figure attacked me. A previous dream involved me trying to get out of the house and the door would not open. I read that this is probably due to childhood trauma which I did experience. I also experienced nightmares as a child.Now, I'm always uncomfortable going over to check on the house. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this experience.

Find Care & Housing
I had to clean Out my Moms apartment alone and it was a Lot of work . It got to a Point I could no Longer go there and left her car behind . In a way it was a relief when I Knew I couldn't go back for any More stress .

@KNance,
I'm definitely not looking forward to cleaning out the house because more than likely, I will be doing it alone as well.

I did while cleaning out Mom’s house . It gave me the creeps being there . I worked as fast as I could .
The dreams stopped when the house sold , since I knew I no longer had to go back .

@waytomisery,
I definitely get the creeps. I always leave quickly after checking on everything.

Is Dad in the facility permanently? Is the house up for sale? Are you POA and can sell it? Maybe if you get rid of the house, the dreams will stop. My Moms was like an albatross around my neck. It took 4 yrs to sell and the proceeds just covered the outstanding taxes, Medicaid recovery and my out of pocket.

@JoAnn,
Yes, he is there permanently. I'm POA but it is not for sale yet but will be in the near future.

I love interpretting my own dreams. I consider them messages and gifts, and when I "tell them" to myself, or write them down, the words I use tell me what my mind is trying to work out. If I had your dreams about my own situation with my brother I would interpret them for ME this way:

1. You are in his house and a dark figure attacks you.
To me this is that your Dad is still a figure of darkness (fear and worry) for you. He is the "dark side", the "uncertainty" and "fear". He's the haunting that is at any moment going to be there to plague you. He is fear of the unknown.

2. Second dream you mentioned is actually more of the same. You feel you simply cannot get away from him. He is always there, and everything he represents along with him. You cannot escape; the door won't open to free you of him.

Anyway, I often will ASK for message dreams to help me interpret what I feel, what I fear, what is wrong, what might help.
I simply love dreams, even the worst of them.
I would be surprised to hear anyone say they don't have them. They are the most amazed mystery to me, how we speak to ourselves in allegory. We try to help ourselves understand all we feel, all we fear, all we hope.
Happy New Year, Faithful!

@AlvaDeer,
Thank you for this! I totally agree! It is always fear of the unknown with him and feel totally scared and uncomfortable when I go there now. I also had this scared feeling long before he left his home.
Happy New Year to you too!!!!

After my mama passed away I had PTSD. I did not have nightmares.
When my daddy was in a facility I had nightmare of a cat attacking me and not letting go of my face. I only had the nightmare once. A little background my daddy had a nightmare of a cat many years before (like in the 90's) of a cat that the eyes changed colors - using all the colors of the rainbow and in this nightmare my daddy told the cat you cannot use those colors those are God's colors! He then woke and never had that nightmare again. The cat was black in our nightmares. Also, after the nightmare he said he prayed to God to take this from him. I, too, prayed that this nightmare be taken from me.
So as I have written this I have prayed that these nightmare be taken from you and you have peace given to you by God in heaven.
