from the internet:

"Elderly individuals may sleep with their eyes open due to a condition known as nocturnal lagophthalmos, which can be caused by underlying issues with facial muscles and nerves. This phenomenon is often associated with facial paralysis, which may result from conditions such as Bell's palsy, stroke, or trauma. If this occurs, it is advisable to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation"

Always remember, the internet is your friend! You can learn so much by just typing into the search engine "elderly sleeping with eyes open".
That's what I did.
I hadn't heard of this condition before, even as a nurse. So fascinating.
I would follow up with her doctor.
Best to you.

I have never heard of this and would ask her doctor about it.

I guessing that pretty much anything is considered "normal" when it comes to dementia.
